How Boulderball works

Miniature Climbing

The Boulderball is like a small climbing wall for your fingers. You hold the ball freely in the air and climb a route hold by hold – without putting the ball down.

The Goal

Each route shows you a specific sequence of holds. You start with two fingers on the starting holds and move step by step to the top.

The Basic Rule

With the classic Boulderball, a maximum of 3 fingers may touch the ball at the same time. As soon as a new finger is placed on the next hold, another finger must leave the ball.

Step by Step to the TOP

  1. Select route (map or app)
  2. Take start position (finger 1 and 2) - lift ball
  3. Third finger places on next hold
  4. First finger releases
  5. Repeat – until goal

💡 Tip: You may move your finger on a hold, but not swap it!

12 routes (Famous Mountains) are included in the "Boulderball Basic" package.

For each level

  • Kids / Beginners: Beginners can start with 4 fingers to get familiar with the game. (See the Kids routes in the app or available as a download.)
  • Classic: The standard game mode is played with 3 fingers.
  • Pro: Advanced routes feature more challenging movements, special holds, and Special Moves such as Dyno, Crack, and Snaky.
